An ode

there is a face
which you never tire of seeing
there is a smile
which means the world to you
there is a rebuke
which you fear the most
there is a pat on the back
which tells you all is well
there is a tear
you never want to see
there is a voice
you want to beleive
there is a stare
which sees right through you
there is a guide
when you are confused
there is peace
amid chaos and confusion
there is a presence
like a rainbow after the rain
there is someone beside
when all have left your side
there is strength
when all is lost
there is light
when all is dark
there is love
when you need it the most
there are moments
which you cherish forever
there is a truth
when all else is a lie
there is a mother
when there is no other

poem written during a hot, torrid bus journey one sultry bangalore evening

the end is near
in every eye, a tear
no one knows why
they all live in fear

many have endeavored to find
what is in the devil's mind
what he has in store for the world
what will follow
when his fury is unfurled

they have never returned
for in his hell, they burned
at the mercy of his wrath
regretting their choice of path

it is time for a hero
is there one ?
the people ask each other
instead of trying to help
they just "trust" the holy mother

they have stopped thinking
they just do as told
so afraid, so scared, they
are to break the mould

you will find a few
who try something new
untill they meet the rest
who drain away their zest

a scribe asked the devil
as to what his plans are
because the scribe wanted to know
as there is no fear as great
as that of the unknown

the devil calmly said
let things be
the earth doesnt need any new curse
things down there cant get any worse

Mars Attacks !!!

the martian anthem...its acutally a poem mate ...n truck loads of crap just to ensure the words rhyme...but neways  read on !!!

i was tending to my doggy, who was all wet n soggy
when i heard a loud bang... cling clang clang clang
what i saw changed muh life forever,
in miracles i became a believer
out of the huge cloud of dust emerged a thing,
opening the hatch of his shuttle with a fling

oye earthling, whatcha staring at in a manner so dumbfound,
i am thy neighbour and i expect you to show me around

hop on to my trusty ol harley n off we shall go, said i,
onward we march, onto a journey, the end unknown

we landed up in the thick jungles of amazon,
no light around and weird sounds of a time bygone
then suddenly we were surrounded by a bunch of pig-me's
and the thing from mars was as frightened as gimlee
"do all earthlings welcome outsiders in this strange way?
what a horrific end to what started off as a great day..."
so we traded my watch for our freedom and the chiefs daughter
rode out of the camp amidst gay laughter

hop on to my trusty ol harley n off we shall go, said i,
onward we march, onto a journey, the end unknown

peem peem ...went the traffic behind us "move ahead u dork!"
we totally forgot that we had landed up in nu york !!!
from luscious jungles to the concrete ones,
from one type of cannibalism to the other,
the contrast reminded me of muh gal and grandmother
the city had something for every shape, size and sex
statue of liberty, tiffany's , ground zero all left us in a state of vex
this city aint got no soul said the thing

hop on to my trusty ol harley n off we shall go, said i,
onward we march, onto a journey, the end unknown

...and we landed up in HOLLYWOOD !!
from casting couches to producer's with slouches,
hot pretty little things moving around in big hummers,
the two of us felt like a bunch of bummers
out of nowhere appeared a talent agent and said to the thing
"look pardner, i ll buy this costume for 50k ...heck u look like a real martian king"
out of one of the things orifices came out a crude punch
and the agent threw up stuff he just had for lunch
now there was a crowd gathered in anticipation
"a movie sequence" whispered one, with great animation
"people here are stupid....lets move on"

hop on to my trusty ol harley n off we shall go, said i,
onward we march, onto a journey, the end unknown

hey honey want some dope?
sorry babe we are actually looking for the pope.
then what the heck are u doing in the gateway of europe?
oh shit ! we had ended up in amsterdam !
a place which God still looks down and exclaims god damn !
show me all there is to explore in this city, we told the over dressed girl
come explore me and you ll learn all u need to about the city said she
the thing exploded "is there no place where i can find serendipity ?
coz from the pesky earthlings i expect no pity

hop on to my trusty ol harley n off we shall go, said i,
onward we march, onto a journey, the end unknown

the chilly breeze cutting through our skins we reached the peak,
through the awful labyrinth of lost jungles with the Indian souls sounding their bugles
for we were invaders of macchu picchu
every inscription telling its story out aloud, making every human being proud
the lizard on the stone wall bathed itself in the receding sun light,
preparing itself for a freezing night
through our minds eye we captured the wonder
and for the next leg of the journey we began to ponder

hop on to my trusty ol harley n off we shall go, said i,
onward we march, onto a journey, the end unknown

there was a weird smell in the air and the feeling was that of a village fair,
little kids running around in rags, sleeping in their gunny bags
this was the lowest denominator of humane society
for it showed the fellow beings lack of sobriety
people wading through the severs, not bothering if it later gave them the fevers
i wondered how any 1 could live amidst this squalor, just when we heard some 1 holler
they had conquered the stench, the dirt, the poverty and were at least assured of happiness and liberty

hop on to my trusty ol harley n off we shall go, said i,
onward we march, onto a journey, the end unknown

we didnt see it till it came very close, for it showed itself to us only when it chose
it had a beautiful coat of white fur, which in the thick snowy background looked like a blur
its 2 dark eyes and a nose standing out, sniffing out the next meal
just then it saw a movement below the ice and dived into the water
and disappeared into the wilderness
there were some penguins around, walking as if their legs were bound
a few albatrosses flying into the horizon, some seals waiting for the sun
7 down to 3 to go

hop on to my trusty ol harley n off we shall go, said i,
onward we march, onto a journey, the end unknown

a huge roar went up in the air, "oye the referee isn't too fair!!!"
hordes and hordes of beer guzzling lunatics,
fists clenched, mouths tensed as they watched the goal scorer perform acrobatics
but they got their revenge for the team in red got one back in the net
"man u kicks arse mate !" exclaimed one, expecting us to join him,
but we decided to leave him to his jolly fate, for the english football fan is a lost cause
the atmosphere was so charged, with all our strength towards the exit we barged
it might be a good game, but i ll watch it on tv with my dame

hop on to my trusty ol harley n off we shall go, said i,
onward we march, onto a journey, the end unknown

huffing and puffing we reached the dam, on the walls of which was some spam,
it said " here lies the stairway to heaven, here's the ladder to eternal happiness"
not realizing what to do next, we marched ahead not realizing the context
there was the most beautiful garden we had ever seen
this must be shangri la we wondered and cursed ourselves for the time we had squandered
we turned to go back but we saw nothing but a dense mist covering every inch of our path
and then it hit us...this was the end ...my only friend the end

hop on to my trusty ol harley n off we shall go, said i,
onward we march, onto a journey, the end unknown
hop on to my trusty ol harley n off we shall go, said i,
onward we march, onto a journey, the end unknown

SORRY

this is a poem i wrote in 5 minutes based on a real life experience

this is the story
of a young man
who often thought
"change the world" i can

he had seen anguish
he had seen pain
untill he decided
to never see them again

he wanted to smile,
to use his guile,
the gift of gab, he had
a truly jovial lad

All his friends liked
his non-stop chatter
whether it was a joke
or a serious matter

he made new friends
really quick
of his jokes and pranks
they were really sick

he sounded funny
not hurting others
careful enough not to
ruffle the feathers

one day he made a new friend

he knew it was different
the feeling was new
the bond grew stronger
as the days just flew

the trust was complete
a strange security
for the friendship
involved great maturity

she shared with him
what was unknown to others
he listened to and adviced
her as would her brothers

he made her laugh
when her mind was troubled
which made him happy
as the joy was doubled

till one day, the
memories of a troubled past
came back to him and
left him aghast

inside him a snake reared
its ugly fangs
waiting to strike
without any guilty pangs

it was his misfortune
to have her as prey
to have to face his
angst ridden spray

she felt cheated
and the trust was melting
she maintained her dignity
her silence was denting

he realized his folly
as soon as he made it
he felt angry at himself
for having ill treated her

she forgave him too soon
he knew this was not a boon
more than relief , a new
feeling emerged

the fear of not being
trusted again
the fear of causing
irrevocable pain

he became silent
he couldn't smile
others complained that
this was not his style

for his quiteness
they asked him a reason
he was not brave enough
to admit his treason

all the time thinking
he would lose this friend
"serves me right" he thought
because he had been a fiend

the powerful emotions
surged through his mind
manifesting themselves as tears
for someone who was always kind

he would do anything to
thwart this fear
to gain back the trust
of someone so dear

she forgave him when
she knew he was clear
he hopes that after all this
to her, he is more near

he is greatful for the
second chance
to him it is like the
happiness of a lifetime
in advance

Fonnets(4 line variation of a sonnet)

Hey all!!!!!!!!!!

I've started writing Fonnets , not because i like them, its just because i'm too lazy to write a poem or a story........

here goes

I ask God what i want
he gives me what i need
I asked him for a plant
he gave me a seed.......

Maybe I'l never be
what i want to be
Now's not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why

title suggestions invited

the legs were heavy, the pain intense
the falling light,the atmosphere tense
the bridge was plateless, the focus immense
right now, nothing else was making sense

could hear my heart bear, the silence total
careful enough not to make our fears vocal
no one in sight here,
neither foreign nor local

the rumble of the train,
the call of a skylark
rushing through,
so we could make it before dark

we kept walking on the endless track
under the heavy weight of the back pack
of strength their was serious lack
we were so ready to hit the rack

despite the fear of the animals and that of the dark
the beauty of the place left inside us a deep mark
the pristine views provided us with the spark
surely recorded for a future hark

tired and famished we took some rest
pondering on what strategy would be the best
not knowing whose advice was to be believed
not knowing where we would be relieved

with all the energy spent,
we came round a bend to find a board
we stared at it for a few seconds
and our spirits soared

for we had reached our destination
yes,it was the yedakumeri railway station

BMTC - unleashed................................... part deux

ok,so ur ready.

During my 3 and a half years in bangalore, i have discovered a few truths about the BMTC

varun's guide to the BMTC - complete Do's and Dont's (Believe me! u dont want to do the donts)

As many ppl wud have already experienced it, there's no use of explicitly stating the maddening and chaotic Bangalore rush hour. thus here are a few pointers and warm-ups

training:
1. daily sprints should help u a lot.

2. arm strengthening exercises are advised.

3.neck flexibility movements are recommended.

4. leg strengthening is a must.

ok, now to put all of these into action

HOW TO board a bus in majestic in the peak hours

1. choose only automatic door buses as the others are already full from god knows where!!!!

2. the automatic door buses open up only on their respective platforms, and thus at least give the average commuter hope of getting a seat.

3.be ready to run along with the bus until the man with the steering decides to stop, trampling and stamping as many people's feet as possible.

4.the feet stamping has 2 advantages;
a. it gets u ahead of them because u are still running with the bus while they are still massaging their feet.
b. its important to keep running because if by mistake u stop u r sure to get an earful of the most choice sanskrit(i hope u get what i mean) words.

5.assuming the bus has stopped (finally!!!)things to do:

a. get a position close to the door on either side.
b. if not possible stand exactly in the middle of the crowd (only for experienced ppl like me)
c. keep asking the ppl in front of u to allow the ppl in the bus to get down while pushing them as hard as possible.(this will earn u sympathy from the ppl disembarking)
d.when the last person gets down(assuming he can :)) push like there's no tomorrow.
e. here's where ur neck's flexibility and the strength in yer arms come into the picture.
f. be sure to have yer neck pushed to the limit, when this happens use yer elbows freely and strike every living thing in sight.

6. if u have followed the above instructions well, u r inside the bus, move quickly cause ppl are coming in from windows(yes,i 'v seen it happen),doors etc

7.get the first available seat, there's no time to choose. the english proverb a seat underneath is worth two in the other bus aptly describes the situation.

8. now avoid looking upwards because there are always old people waitin for an offer (the decent sort) and others who will demand a seat.

9. oops i forgot an important pointer. feel free to throw away or innocently shift kerchiefs and other's personal belongings put in from the windows.

10. exactly as yer stop draws closer, vacate the seat for an elderly person. this will earn u brownie points.

11. NEVER sit in between two old people. they normally discuss the state of bangalore with more water coming out of their mouth than words.

thats it for now.

hope it helps.........................
